Cy Twombly passed away on Tuesday.

If you aren't familiar with him or his work then I do recommend checking it out.  He's one of my absolute favorite artists and if you take a gander at a few of his works you will probably see why I like him so much.  Some of his work in in the MOMA and I had the chance to see it in person when I was there.  I was just smitten.

The way he works and the meaning in his work (which really, is about as meaningful as I consider my work) just excites the crap out of me. When I make my scribbles there isn't some lofty purpose to it.  It really is just the act or mark making and the ability I have to leave something somewhere in the moment.  It's doing something.

It's been a really long time since I've read anything about art. I think I need to get a Cy Twombly book and bury myself in it for a while.

Here's a nice video talking about one of the more famous works by him, Leda and the Swan.  There are versions of the video in lots of other languages on the site as well.  He also did etchings and sculpture.

I really need to build that wall in the garage or the basement so I can work again.

Cy: start that great scribble in the sky, and I'll catch up with you when I get there.

No offense, but Twombly has you beat by a rather incredible margin.
