Billy Was Born Dead
Billy was born dead.
Fleshy cord, tight – blue, or purple.
No cries.
“The baby is dead. I’m sorry.”
“No, the baby will live.” A fact.
The baby grew; the baby loved.
The love died, but Billy lived.
“I’m not afraid to die,” he said. “I’ve already done it once.”

Today I saw a dead cat on the side of the road + I was sadish. I found a dead dragonfly and thought it was cool. So I gave it to Sui. On the way home, I said some prayerful thoughts for the dead cat and found another dragonfly in the road.  I put it in my purse to give to Sui in the morning but when I got back to my room + put it down on the desk its legs moved.  So it's not completely dead yet.  Suddenly I felt badly.  And a little creeped out. I covered it with a hat.  I figure it is just dying + having spasms. But now I can't help but think... What's the difference between Sui using dead dragonflies in art + someone using dead cats?
Sort of disturbing.
Tonight I saw the Milky Way. On the night of the new moon I want to stay out all night.

I made a painting. I think I have no color sense. My paintings are boring + predictable at least as far as color goes.
The assignment is a vertical landscape with a reaction to the philosophy.  I painted three vertical pages with the bottom 3/4 land + all the rest sky.  In the sky there is a face upturned. I'm trying to show my preference for believing in the strength of spirituality.
I still think the colors are boring
I am going to run a white drip vertically up the sky to show the rising of a soul or some such idea.
Maybe it's naive to believe in an afterlife and maybe we do cease to exist when we die.  But even if that's so, what's the harm in believe my mother is watching over me? What's the harm in believing I will be able to see her again?  There's no harm in that. There's no harm in my having faith.  I don't think there is anyway.
I just have a hard time believing there's no soul.  There's just too many unexplainable "happenings" or "supernaturals"

Group Show for Trad Artists in Massachusetts
Call for Artists!
Seeking traditional artists (mainly painting and drawing) for a group exhibition at a restaurant in SE Massachusetts.  Local area artists from northern CT, RI and southern NH might also be close enough to apply.
This is a juried exhibition.  The work must be professional, themed for all audiences, and ready to hang (on canvas or matted and framed); all work in the show will be for sale minus a 15% commission.  The restaurant will have an opening for us; we do our own promotion.
If you are interested and want more details, please note me because DA does not notify for news replies.
HAPPY NEW YEAR! :la:

Cy Twombly passed away on Tuesday.

If you aren't familiar with him or his work then I do recommend checking it out.  He's one of my absolute favorite artists and if you take a gander at a few of his works you will probably see why I like him so much.  Some of his work in in the MOMA and I had the chance to see it in person when I was there.  I was just smitten.

The way he works and the meaning in his work (which really, is about as meaningful as I consider my work) just excites the crap out of me. When I make my scribbles there isn't some lofty purpose to it.  It really is just the act or mark making and the ability I have to leave something somewhere in the moment.  It's doing something.

It's been a really long time since I've read anything about art. I think I need to get a Cy Twombly book and bury myself in it for a while.

Here's a nice video talking about one of the more famous works by him, Leda and the Swan.  There are versions of the video in lots of other languages on the site as well.  He also did etchings and sculpture.

I really need to build that wall in the garage or the basement so I can work again.

Cy: start that great scribble in the sky, and I'll catch up with you when I get there.
