Cy Twombly passed away on Tuesday.

If you aren't familiar with him or his work then I do recommend checking it out.  He's one of my absolute favorite artists and if you take a gander at a few of his works you will probably see why I like him so much.  Some of his work in in the MOMA and I had the chance to see it in person when I was there.  I was just smitten.

The way he works and the meaning in his work (which really, is about as meaningful as I consider my work) just excites the crap out of me. When I make my scribbles there isn't some lofty purpose to it.  It really is just the act or mark making and the ability I have to leave something somewhere in the moment.  It's doing something.

It's been a really long time since I've read anything about art. I think I need to get a Cy Twombly book and bury myself in it for a while.

Here's a nice video talking about one of the more famous works by him, Leda and the Swan.  There are versions of the video in lots of other languages on the site as well.  He also did etchings and sculpture.

I really need to build that wall in the garage or the basement so I can work again.

Cy: start that great scribble in the sky, and I'll catch up with you when I get there.

I've been looking at my old figure paintings - you know, the weird ones.

I'd really like to do more of those but I need a wall to work on.  I might need to build a wall.

Call for Artists!

Seeking traditional artists (mainly painting and drawing) for a group exhibition at a restaurant in SE Massachusetts.  Local area artists from northern CT, RI and southern NH might also be close enough to apply.

This is a juried exhibition.  The work must be professional, themed for all audiences, and ready to hang (on canvas or matted and framed); all work in the show will be for sale minus a 15% commission.  The restaurant will have an opening for us; we do our own promotion.

If you are interested and want more details, please note me because DA does not notify for news replies.

HAPPY NEW YEAR! :la:

I just cleared out almost all of my watch list because I have been terribly inactive on this account and the deviations were piling up to a depressing level.  Actually, I will probably end up watching many of the same people again, but I feel like this account really needs a fresh start.

To those who've recently watched me: thanks a lot!  Hopefully I will be posting more frequently on this account.  There's quite a variety of work here.  I'm curious, for what are you mostly watching?

Show at Truffles is still up until the holidays.  I'm going to be helping them to find more artists to exhibit so if you live in the Eastern Massachusetts area, let me know.

Show Extended

1 min read
Just a small update that my show in Milford, MA at Truffles has been extended, and they've agreed for me to make more pieces to fill the spaces of the few things that have sold.  Seems like this might turn into a longer gig.  I need to go there one afternoon and take some better photos of the works I didn't get to photograph before the show.  It's nice to know my stuff is being seen relatively regularly.

I want to build a wall in the basement so I can start doing more large scale figurative work.  I have a few more ideas for that and now that I'm doing my stock account AdorkaStock I have a free model.  :3
